There are different requirements for Salvadorans and Guatemalans. Both must have registered for the ABC program or applied for Political Asylum before April 1, 1990, and for citizens of El Salvador must have applied for TPS before October 1991. There are cases in which the children and the spouse qualify. Some of the requirements are: have at least 7 years of continuous presence in the United States; it also requires tax payments (Income Taxes); good moral character and show that returning to their country would cause extreme hardship. The process could take years; however, the waiting time is within the United States, without leaving to the applicant's country of origin.
