U Visa
The U visa allows victims of violent crimes such as domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking of undocumented persons, and other crimes, to remain in the United States if they meet certain requirements. Also, it offers protection to the victims of such crimes.
Eligibility requirements:
The victim must have suffered physical or mental abuse during a criminal act in the United States. The types of physical or mental abuse are; rape, torture, trafficking, incest, domestic violence, sexual assault, abusive sexual conduct, prostitution, sexual exploitation, female genital mutilation, hostage-taking situations, peonage, abduction, involuntary servitude, the slave trading, kidnapping, unlawful criminal restraint, blackmail, extortion, manslaughter, murder, felonious assault, witness tampering, obstruction of justice, perjury, or the attempt, conspiracy or incitement to commit any of the mentioned offenses.
