VAWA, I-360 Domestic Violence Residency

The United States Congress passed a law to protect women and men from violence by a spouse, resident or citizen of the United States.

The two main requirements are being legally married to a resident or citizen and proving that the applicant has suffered domestic violence or psychological abuse by the spouse.

The petitioner must present evidence of the abuse such as photos, police reports, criminal court files if the abuser was taken to court or convicted, proof of court protection orders, written statements from witnesses, medical or psychological evidence, religious advisers’ letters among other proof.
